Colors to be Kept for Future with GR (Yuka)

2020.04.08 BLOG

Hi, it’s Yuka.

I have been in the US for half a year now, and finally had a chance to take a vacation in late April 2019, and went to take pictures with the GR III in Maui, where I made full use of the Touch AF and Outdoor View Setting that I had talked about.

For me, camera is a recorder for memory. Since memories fade away sooner or later, I keep records of everything from daily life to special trips, including my children’s growth. I share with my children photos that my parents left for me. I want to do the same for them as well.

Among various other cameras that I have used, the number one reason why I use the GR is because I want to record what I see with my eyes. My ideal is to capture it as it is without dramatization or exaggeration.

The ideal future I found in Maui. I want to live like this.

GR III, F5.6, ISO100, 1/500sec, EV+ 0.3, Crop 50mm

I love this craftsman kind of color making. No extra decoration or exaggeration.

For example, the colors of the same picture are so different with a smartphone. It's completely a matter of taste and there is no better or worse, but the colors taken with the GR are closer to what I saw with my eyes.

It’s easy to make the blue colors of the sky and the sea more vivid, but I like them as they are.

GR III, F5.6, ISO200, 1/800sec, EV+0.0

On another beach. So bright! ! ! Then I try to take a picture to show how bright it is without reducing exposure too much.

GR III, F5.6, ISO200, 1/1600sec, EV+0.0, Crop 35mm

GR III, F5.6, ISO200, 1/1000sec, EV+0.0, Crop 35mm

GR III, F5.6, ISO200, 1/640sec, EV-0.3

Record the colors as they are, without adjusting them too vividly green or yellow.

GR III, F5.0, ISO200, 1/400sec, EV-0.3

GR III, F2.8, ISO200, 1/125sec, EV0.0

I wonder if the day will come when my daughters will see my pictures with their children (way ahead though).

When I take photos with the GR, what I try to do with the settings is to match the colors with those I see with my own eyes. Someone expressed the GR as an extension of his optic nerve. I agree with that. What we want from a camera is quite different from person to person, but you can be happy if you find something that best suits you. I often take pictures indoors too, so I'm exploring how to set the GR differently according to the location.

See you soon!
