Happy New Year! It's Yuka.
I spent the New Year holidays in the United States, where there is nothing like the Japanese traditional New Year, but after a long break, I'm back in business!
Well, let me recommend some settings this time. I change the settings according to the following 3 major situations: sunny outdoor shooting, cloudy outdoor shooting, and indoor shooting.
Previously, when I talked about the touch monitor, I also touched on my settings (sunny outdoor shooting). This time, I will talk about the settings for cloudy outdoor shooting and indoor shooting as well.
GR III, P mode, F5.6, ISO1250, 1/1000sec, EV+0.7, Image Control: Vivid
Seattle, which has a higher latitude than Hokkaido, has short sunshine hours and a lot of rain and overcast. I tend to stay inside my house, but I sometimes push myself to go outside. The following settings are used for outdoor shooting in cloudy weather.
・Assigned "Cloudy" shooting settings to the U1 (USER1) mode dial
[Still image settings]
・Exposure mode: P Program mode
・ISO: Auto
・White balance: Multi Auto
・Automatic Horizon Correction: On
[ISO settings]
・ISO: Auto
・ISO Auto Upper Limit: 3200
・ISO Auto Lower Limit: 100
・Minimum Shutter Speed: 1/6
[Customization settings]
・ADJ mode setting: Image Control, Focus, Touch AF [AF Point+Focus], File Format, Outdoor View Setting
・Fn button: Crop
Especially when shooting outdoors, I often turn on Automatic Horizon Correction because I often shoot the nature as I wrote in my last article. As for Touch AF, [AF Point+Focus] is my default setting, and I lower the Minimum Shutter Speed.
When I think the contrast is low in cloudy weather, I often shoot in RAW or set the Image Control to Vivid. I will try the Level Correction that Asakura wrote about when I get a chance!
GR III, P mode, F5.6, ISO1600, 1/800sec, EV+0.3
GR III, P mode, F6.3, ISO1600, 1/2000sec, EV+1.3
In winter, when we have a lot of cloudy and rainy weather, as well as Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, I spend a lot of time indoors. When I take pictures of children, I move around even indoors, so I set the ISO rate higher to have faster shutter speeds.
・Assigned "Room" shooting settings to the U2 (USER2) mode dial
[Still image setting]
・Exposure mode: Tv shutter priority AE
・ISO: Auto
・White balance: Multi Auto
・AWB in Tungsten Light: High
[ISO sensitivity setting]
・ISO: Auto
・ISO Auto Upper Limit: 6400
・ISO Auto Lower Limit: 100
・Minimum Shutter Speed: 1/60
[Customization settings]
・ADJ mode setting: Image Control, Focus, Touch AF [AF Point+Focus+Shoot], File Format, Outdoor View Setting
・Fn button: Crop
GR III, Av mode, F2.8, ISO1600, 1/60sec, EV0.0
Only with the light of the Christmas tree, ISO 5000
GR III, Av mode, F2.8, ISO5000, 1/60sec, EV-0.3, WB: Cloudy
GR III, Av mode, F2.8, ISO2500, 1/125sec, EV+0.3
Here, touch AF is set to [AF Point+Focus+Shoot] as the default so that the time to shoot can be shortened. Also, the Minimum Shutter Speed is at 1/60 so that it can respond to fast movement.
With the GR III, the noise at higher ISO is less noticeable than the previous models, so you can enjoy shooting indoors without a flash more!
There's a snow forecast this weekend. I hope to resume enjoying the mountains and nature as soon as possible, but at the same time, I want to enjoy the snow.
Looking forward to being with you again this year!
